Robert L. McAllister
Robert L. McAllisterGOP ElephantRobert L. McAllister, age 84 of Marysville, died Sunday afternoon October 23, 2011 at the Gables at Green Pastures in Marysville.  He was born November 26, 1926 to the late Xemas and Lorena (Westlake) McAllister.

On September 25, 1949 he married the former Donna L. Cheney in the First United Methodist Church in Richwood and she survives in Marysville.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Richwood and attended the First United Methodist Church in Marysville.  He was a Mason who belonged to lodges in Grand Rapids and Toledo.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during World War II.  He was a licensed funeral director who had worked for Winter’s Funeral Home in Richwood before owning his own funeral home in McClure and Wapakoneta.  After a fire destroyed the funeral home in 1957, he and his family moved back to Richwood.

He was very active in the Republican Party, having worked many years for state Republican chairman Ray Bliss, including a one-year stint in 1960 as clerk of the Ohio House.  He served as Legislative Director for the Ohio Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.  Once during the 1968 Republican National Convention, Bob was the recipient of a beer bought for him by none other than John Wayne, who was in town to support the nomination of Richard Nixon.  Bob retired as a legislative director for the realtors in 1983 and then was appointed to the Ohio Industrial Commission for 9 years, before retiring for good in 1994.

He and his wife Donna have traveled to every state in the U. S. as well as much of Europe.

Besides his wife, he is also survived by a son, Dean (Cindy) McAllister, Grove City; two daughters, Bethany (Dale) Schellin, Marysville; Ann (Steve) Robinson, Marysville; a brother, William (Eileen) McAllister, Columbus; a sister, Margaret “Peg” (Chet) Wolanin, Michigan; eight grandchildren, Josiah (Diana) Robinson, Matthew (Jennifer) Robinson, Rebecca (Jeremy) Miller, William (Emily) Schellin, Bradley Schellin, Emily Schellin, Scott McAllister, and Mary McAllister; and four great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a son, Brad, who died in a 1974 canoeing accident; three brothers, Gale, Donald and Charles; a sister, Mary Warner; and one grandchild, Benjamin Jacob Schellin.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Richwood First United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Rhea officiating.  Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood.  A private burial will take place in Claibourne Cemetery with the Richwood Area Veterans conducting military honors.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Union County Humane Society, 16540 County Home Road, Marysville, OH  43040 or Richwood First United Methodist Church, 18 S. Fulton Street, Richwood, OH  43344.

Please accept my deepest sympathies on the passing of Bob.  I just got an e-mail from Beverly Trombka telling me about Bob. It's hard to accept that he's gone.  What a great man of character.  So honored to have worked politically in Washington during his lifetime of experiences. We all looked up to Lorena's intelligent and strong children.  I can just imagine the joy and hugs from his loved ones in heaven as he's welcomed home!

Love and prayers.....Nancy Leibensperger
