Henrietta M. Becker
Henrietta M. BeckerCrossMrs. Henrietta Becker, age 93 was born to life on May 13, 1916 in Colby, Wisconsin.  She was born to eternal life on Monday, March 1, 2010.

She resided with her son, Keith Becker of Prospect for many years and was a current resident of Heartland Care Center, Marion.

Her parents were Paul and Anna Draeger of Colby, Wisconsin and preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Prospect and a non-resident member of the First united Church of Christ in Colby.  She received her education in Colby, graduating from Colby High School with the class of 1933.  She was very active in her home church, the former St. John’s Evangelical Church and now the First United Church of Christ.  She was a member of the church choir and superintendant of Christian education.

On September 2, 1936 she was united in marriage with the Rev. Edwin Becker in St. John’s Evangelical Church in Colby.  With her husband they served churches in Marinette, Oshkosh and Campbellsport, Wisconsin and Marine, Illinois.

Both Rev. and Mrs. Becker served as counselors and instructors at summer Christian education camps in Eagle River, Green Lake and Plymouth, Wisconsin.

On September 2, 1962, Rev. Becker preceded Mrs. Becker in death at Campbellsport.

Mrs. Becker was very active in the Northwest Church Synod of the United Church of Christ in Wisconsin, in the Women’s Guild and in Christian Education.

From 1963 to 1966 she served as a head resident of a girl’s dormitory at Heidelberg College in Tiffin.  In 1966 she went to live and care for her parents in Colby until their deaths in 1974 and 1976.  In the fall of 1976 she moved to Union County, living in Marysville and Richwood, including the Richwood Community Apartments where she was an active member of the Richwood Civic Center and the Melody Makers Chorus.

She is survived by two sons, David (Suzanne) Becker, Peru, Illinois; Keith Becker, Prospect; a brother, Paul Draeger, Woodruff, Wisconsin; three granddaughters, Dr. Kathryn Becker, Cambridge, Illinois; Wendy Abate (Becker), Chicago, Illinois; Kimberly Duffy (Becker), Chicago, Illinois; two great-granddaughters, Ava Leigh Duffy and Eden Grace Duffy; a step-grandson, Charles Petty, Prospect; one nephew, one great-niece and one great-nephew.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Everett Bailey.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 10:30 AM in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Prospect where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service.  Rev. Dr. Rahel Hahn will officiate.  Inurnment in Colby, Wisconsin will take place at a later date.

On behalf of the Southeast Association clergy and churches our prayers go out to the Becker family.  We were clearly blessed by the ministry of Henrietta  as a faithful pastor's spouse.  She now joins the Church Triumphant, thanks be to God!
