Fred Long
Fred LongFred Long, age 70 of Crown City and former resident of the Green Camp area and 20 year resident of Three Rivers, Michigan, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis following a short battle with cancer.  He was born July 9, 1938 in Marion to the late Alfred and Martha (Bauer) Long.  He married the former Betty Williams on January 22, 1988 in Three Rivers Michigan and she survives.

He was a 1957 graduate of Green Camp High School.  He was a talented machinist having worked at Marion Power Shovel for over 20 years, retiring in 2001.  He also worked at Burr Oak Tool and Gauge in Sturgis, Mich. and K & M Machine in Cassopolis, Mich.  In addition to his talents with tool and die, he also enjoyed woodworking and making things for people.  A music lover, he enjoyed playing guitar and square dancing, which is how he met his wife, Betty.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jack (Debbie) Long, Marysville; Brian (Cheryl) Long, Marion; a step-son, Barry Wills, Richwood; a daughter, Joyce Hamel, Jacksonville, Fla; two step-daughters, Vickie Miller, Marion; Darla Wills, North Lewisburg; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his cat, Harley.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Noon in the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Jim Sprague officiating.  Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery.  Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service.  In keeping with Fred's wishes, dress will be casual.

Fred was such a special person.  We really enjoyed the time we got to spend with him.  Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
