Joseph S. Gillespie
FlagJoseph S. Gillespie, 84, of Prospect, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at the
Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.
He was a supervisor at the Marion Correctional Institution for 26 years.
The 1934 Harding High School graduate was a weightlifter, avid sportsman,
gardener, carpenter and animal lover.
He was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church and a WWII Navy veteran.
He was a member of the Prospect American Legion Post 368.
He was born Aug. 29,1916 in Marion County to Carl Cash and Grace Lloy
Rapp Gillespie who predeceased him in death. Also predeceased are five
brothers and three sisters.
He was married to Virginia Pitts June 15,1948 in at St. Mary's Rectory in
Marion. She survives and lives in Prospect.
Also surviving are a two daughters, Peggy Jo Koogler and Dr. Carmella
Gillespie; a son Michael Gillespie; a sister Ruth Albright; and five grandchildren,
three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at the Prospect
Cemetery. The Ballinger Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion Humane Society,
2264 Richland Rd, Marion, 43302.
