Dorothy M. Gerfen
Dorothy M. Gerfen, 84, of Prospect, died Thursday, Sept. 27,
2001, at The Arbors in Delaware.
The daughter of Daniel and Mary Dodrill Bengler was born
October 19, 1916. She was married to Franklin Gerfen on October
24, 1937.
She and her husband worked together on the farm which had
been in her family for 165 years. The Prospect High School graduate
with the Class of 1934, was a member of St. Paul's
Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School
teacher, member of the Mission Band and charter member of the
Katherine Luther Circle. She was past president of the Women of
the Church and past vice president of the Lutheran Social
Services of North Central Ohio Auxiliary.
The avid gardener loved raising flowers and was an ardent rose
grower. Her family was her pride and joy. She was a 25-year 4-H
advisor and served on the Mnrion County Advisory Board and was
past president of. the Marion County Extension Home-makers
Club. She helped organize the first Kindergarten in Marion
County at Prospect School.
Because of her keen interest in history, she was an active member
of the Marion County Historical Society and helped compile
the County History Book. She was a member of Prospect Senior
Citizens, Bethlehem Grange for 65 years, National Grange and
formerly served on the Ohio Swine Auxiliary Board.
Surviving are her husband; a son, Darrell Franklin (Janet)
Gerfen of. Prospect; 4 grandchildren: Darrell E. Gerfen, Lorri
Kaufman, Steven (Kim) Gerfen and David (Deb) Gerfen; 6 greatgrandchildren:
Danielle Dutton, Megan and Tyler Kaufman.
Kayla Gerfen and Clay and Noel Gerfcn; a niece und 2 nephews,
Three sisters, Marguerite Flory, Marie Grate Predmore and
Lucille Watkins, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at St. Paul's
Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Stephen S. Bull officiating.
Interment was at Prospect Cemetery. Gehm-Ballinffer
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. •
Memorial contributions may be miitlc In St. Paul's Lutheran
Church Memorial Fund.
