Duane Perkins
Flag Duane Perkins, 72, of Richwood, died peacefully Tuesday morning, July 3,
2007, at the Friends Care Center in Yellow Springs.
He was a 1952 graduate of Richwood High School, where he was a standout
athlete - his 220 track record still stands as of today. He graduated
from The Ohio State University in 1956, where he was a member of the
track team. After graduation, he joined the Air Force as a pilot and
traveled the world. He served his country during Vietnam.
After the war, he returned to Richwood and taught science at North Union
High School until the late 1970s. While there, he started the ski and
photography clubs
He should be remembered for his sense of humor and great knowledge of
everything pertaining to life.
He was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Richwood, to the late Charles and Goldie
Hickok Perkins. He also was predeceased by his wife, Shiranne Yoakam
Perkins; a brother, Marvin Perkins; and a grandson, Travis Markham.
Surviving are his children, Teresa (Marty) Markham and David (Sherry)
Perkins of Richwood, Christine Perkins of Springfield, Mo., and Mary
(Steve) Jones of Springfield, Ohio; grandchildren, Brent, Darrell, Lesa
and Dean; a great-granddaughter, Savannah; and a brother and sister:
Gale (Marilyn) Perkins of Richwood, and Ann Perkins of Hagerstown, Md.
To celebrate Mr. Perkins' life, friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
at Stofcheck Funeral Home in Richwood, where veteran services will be
held at 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Claibourne Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Union Athletic
Department at 401 N. Franklin St., Richwood, OH 43344.
